Game of Thrones is my Favorite

Game of Thrones. I’m obsessed. I had seen snippets of the television show prior to this week but had avoided it purposefully because I was still working my way through the books. Upon finally finishing the 5000+ pages, I am now whizzing through the show. Season 1 and two episodes of season 2 are already under my belt.

I am a big fan of both the show and the books. Both are escapist and allow me to go to another world that is free of Facebook and email. Both have complex story lines that force the viewer to be engaged in what is going on. This is no Real Housewives. The books, in particular, are an exercise in keeping track of names, nicknames, places, and events that are presented in a disjointed and sometimes non-linear manner.

I think I like the series so much because it seems to have faith in it’s reader. It does not spell everything out. The heroes do not always, in fact they rarely, win. The villains are not totally evil. The character’s who seem the least important, often play the largest roles. I, the reader, am left to sort things out for myself and question everything constantly. It is invigorating and, at times, even fright inducing.

So, if my posts have been few and far between lately you can blame it on Tyrion Lannister. He loves books almost as much as me.
