Can You Imagine Yourself In Congress?

Can You Imagine Yourself In Congress?

It started with dinners. Ten to twenty people, a few pizzas, and a topic – the state of politics in America. Every month or so, David Burstein, author, speaker, commentator, etc., would convene together passionate people from all ilks of life to talk about what has become, I believe, one of the defining issues of our generation.

There are a lot of problems in America. There are issues with immigration, education, poverty, and access to healthcare, just to name a few. We have a level of inequality that is truly remarkable and an accepted level of corporate control and manipulation that blows my mind.

But at the base of everything, we have a government that doesn’t work. Even if we were to come up with real solutions to the problems we are facing, the United States government seems to be intent on doing everything but finding solutions.

Our government might be broken, but we elect our government, which means that the issue is even deeper than the meeting halls of congress. It goes down to who we choose and, even more importantly, the pool we get to choose from.

So how do we broaden that pool of possibilities? How do we get past the “same old” picks and bring people into our government that are solutions oriented and are willing to act for the benefit of the people rather than towards their own self-interests?

David Burstein thinks he has a solution in Run for America.

Officially launched today, Run for America will “recruit, train, and work to elect a new generation of leaders to Congress.”

This isn’t about a hot-button issue or a partisan debate. Run for America is about putting solutions-minded people in the drivers seat so that we can get the cogs of Congress turning again.

Check it out, nominate someone you know, tell your friends. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to talk politics.
